Employees participating in Emory's commuter benefits program may receive an employer-issued Breeze Card for use. As you begin using the card, please review the guidelines below.
Using Your Card For The First Time
No special activation is required to begin using your card. To ride, simply tap the card at the correct provider's fare gate (MARTA or Xpress) and zone (Xpress Blue or Xpress Green) for which you were approved.
Managing Your Breeze Card Account
Employees may register their Breeze Card and check their account at https://www.breezecard.com. Create your account to view your trips and passes as well as your card history.
Should I link my employer-issued Breeze Card to my personal email?
No. We recommend that if you register an account on Breezecard.com for your employer-provided card that you use your Emory email to keep the accounts separate.
Should I add my employer-issued Breeze Card to my phone's wallet?
No. Employer-provided transit benefits are only supported on the physical employer-issued Breeze Card at this time.
The reader shows that my benefits expire at the end of the month? Do I need to reapply?
No. Benefits are loaded monthly. If you remain eligible, your next month's benefits will automatically be reloaded to your employer-issued Breeze Card.
What should I do if my card shows a negative balance or 'Insufficient Funds'?
Email our team at commute@emory.edu immediately with your name, Employee ID, Breeze Card number, and a description of the issue.
Xpress Fare Zones
Employees who register for and utilize Xpress should be aware of the difference between the Green & Blue zones. Some routes include trip times that are designated as either Blue or Green, and riders should be aware and confirm with the operator prior to boarding. Blue Zone passes are not valid on Green Zone designated bus.. Breeze Cards with only Blue Zone passes tapped while boarding a Green Zone bus may cause the card to go into a negative balance, which blocks the card from being used until the negative balance is paid.
Before enrolling or changing your Xpress commute, verify whether your park-and-ride location is designated as a Blue Zone or Green Zone. Choosing the correct fare zone helps prevent fare discrepancies, negative balances, and interruptions to your monthly transit benefits.
If I choose Xpress, do I have to select a fare zone?
Yes. Employees selecting Xpress must choose either the Blue Zone or Green Zone. Your employer-issued Breeze Card will only provide access to the fare zone assigned to your account.
Can I ride in a different Xpress fare zone?
No. Your employer-issued Breeze Card only provides access to the fare zone loaded to your card. If you ride outside your assigned fare zone (or a different agency), you are personally responsible for paying any additional fare required by MARTA or Xpress.
Travel outside your assigned zone may result in a negative balance or 'Insufficient Funds.' MARTA and Xpress will not remove negative balances.
Riders are responsible for resolving the balance before employer-provided benefits can be restored or reloaded. This will delay the use of your employee benefits.
How do I know if my Xpress stop is in the Blue Zone or Green Zone?
Xpress routes are classified into two fare zones. The fare depends on the park-and-ride location the route serves:
- Green Zone: Routes serving park-and-ride locations closer to Atlanta.
- Blue Zone: Routes serving park-and-ride locations further away from Atlanta.
Each zone has a different fare price. To determine which zone your route falls into, visit here and scroll down for a detailed list of park-and-ride locations and their corresponding zones.
Some routes have only Green Zone stops. Some only have Blue Zone stops. Some routes, such as the Xpress 415 - Sugarloaf Mills / Indian Trail to Emory, have stops at both Green and Blue Zones.
